Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family:

I was born in Carlisle but grew up in Burnham-on-Sea in a family of five with two older sisters. My father came from a farming background and I went to Agricultural College and then onto working within the animal feed and food industry, both in sales and customer service. In the mid 1990’s I decided to have a complete change of career and joined the Royal Marines which taught me many things about life and living in close proximity with other people. Always keen on sport, mainly football which developed into running, I have tried to keep myself fit which was obviously very important during my time in the military. I am currently training to take part in a marathon this year, with the express aim of hitting a particular time, but more on this nearer the race! I live with my wife and daughter, see my Mother, two Sisters and Aunt on a regular basis, so having our male dog Theodore in the family can sometimes feel like a finally have some moral support!

What attracted you to Estate Agency?

Having had varied careers in Agriculture, Sales and then the Royal Marines, and having met Sue in 2000 who had a successful career in Estate Agency, we decided to get together both personally and professionally by starting our own Agency In Axbridge. My interest in a career in property actually started when I was looking to buy a home and I genuinely felt that the majority of agents at the time were doing a poor job of looking after their buyers, that was until I met Sue on a professional basis and she promptly sold me a house! The rest is history and we very quickly went on to have our daughter Anna in 2002 and opened our own agency just six weeks later. The last sixteen years have flown by but I’m sure we will have many more happy ones to follow.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I like to read, either business or personal development books, or just a good murder mystery! I also aim to run daily. Unfortunately, I also enjoy ‘vegging out’ in front of the television a little too much, something that I am determined to do less of in 2019.

Who is your role model? Why?

I have two role models, both who looked to achieve similar things and had similar values, albeit their methods were a little different. The first is my Father, who was a very committed Methodist. He always helped others and always looked to do the right thing for the right reasons, in a disciplined way. The second is Vince Lombardi, an American Football coach whose mantra was ‘God, Family and the Green Bay Packers’. He was a truly dedicated and disciplined person who was always able to get the best from those around him. I aspire to be like them both.

Tell us something about yourself that’s not on your CV…

I enjoy the photography of Ansell Adams, the writings of Steven Covey, the musings of the Stoics and the weekly columns of American Football pundit, Vic Ketchman!

Thank you Neil,

Up next is our very own Sales Progressor Paul Bartram!
